Can I send email from an address created here?
No. Addresses here receive mail only. There is no Reply button, no compose window, and no way to send a message from your address. Anything sent to the address arrives normally; nothing can leave it.
Why receive-only is deliberate
A free service that lets anyone send mail from a fresh address is a spam cannon. Within days its domains would be blocklisted, and every address on them would stop receiving — including yours. Keeping the service receive-only is what keeps the mail flowing in.
It also removes an entire class of abuse: nobody can impersonate you from an address you created here, because nobody can send from it at all.
What this means in practice
- Sign-ups: fine. Almost every sign-up only needs you to receive a code or a link.
- Verification codes: fine. They arrive and are highlighted at the top of the inbox.
- A conversation with support: not fine. If the service will reply and expect an answer, you need an address you can send from.
- Password resets: usually fine, as long as the reset link arrives by mail rather than needing a reply.
What to use when you need to send
Any ordinary mail account — the one from your provider, or a free account somewhere. Keep that for correspondence, and use an address from here for the sign-ups and codes you do not want in it. Many people use both, on purpose.
Bounces and auto-replies
Because nothing can be sent, nothing will bounce back to a sender from your address, and no automatic reply will ever go out. A sender who expects an answer will simply not get one.
Can I reply to a message from inside the inbox?
No. There is no Reply button, and adding one would turn the service into a way to send mail from a fresh, unverified address — exactly what gets mail domains blocklisted. Keeping the door closed in that direction is what keeps mail arriving in this one.
What if a service requires a reply to verify?
A small number of services verify by asking you to reply rather than click. Those cannot be completed with an address from here, and no workaround exists. Use an ordinary account for that sign-up.
Does receive-only make the address safer?
In one specific way, yes: nobody can send mail as you from an address created here, because sending is not possible for anyone. It does not make the inbox private — anyone holding the address can read it — but it does take impersonation off the list of things to worry about.
